Leader Magazine
DECEMBER 1960.
FROM THE POSTBAG
LETTERS TO THE EDITOR.
The British Museum.
Dear Sir,
In my researches into papyrus roll 2671A, I have come across the following account, of some military interest.
It appears that it was a custom of Hannibal's twelfth Legion to hold a Regimental dinner each year at which just one speech was made. In 967 B.C., the R.S.M. was invited to speak, rose and said, "The cooking in the camp is bad." In 966 B.C., the following year, the R.Q.M.S. made the speech. He said, "With due respect, the food here is very good."
At the next dinner, in 965 B.C., the Colonel rose, "If," he said, "there are any more of these arguments, I shall cancel future Regimental dinners."
I will forward any further military facts I discover.
I am yours faithfully,
Professor Pothecary.

The Beatkingdom,
Dear Scribe,
Dig this. Carving a groove yesterhep I took pensive thinkups on recharging a thing or so. Like a pack sixty pounds back for the breaking of. So I dream up a smooth schemeroo for the cats with the talents the Establishment subscribe only a frown to, and I see it follows-wise.
The cats who dig the Beatking have for themselves but a small piece of the honour and glory hereabouts, so to get us this, but way out and high, I hereby institute the Beatking's Tin Award, and the linedown for onfixing is;-
The appropriate cat shall, fitness wise, get with the salivary art (as the Big Biology Cat has it) and spit a dead ringer on a smoldering weed at six feet.
Education-wise he will dissect a square but deadly.
Expedition-wise, he will execute a short creep and two long drags, excluding the said pack sixty pounds.
Dress-wise, pick me no winkles, no Mr. Drag of Dragsville. Conform, man, conform at the Beatking's Court.
Herewith latest from Upthere. Now move. But sweetly.
(Signed)   THE BEATKING.
