Leader Magazine
WINTER 1962.
BASKETBALL NOTES.
The main preoccupation this term has been with the Inter-Company Competition, which has an added importance, as the winning Company team goes forward to represent the Regiment in the Army Cup. The competition was held on 7th November. In the semi-finals, 'C' Company defeated 'A' Company by 24 pts. to 6, and 'D' Company beat 'B' Company by 47 pts. to 17. In the final, 'D' Company defeated 'C' Company by 39-18. The winning 'D' Company team was: Raines, Reynolds, Miller, Lamb, Clark, Smith, Impey, Smedley, Lavery and Gibbons. The Command section of the Army Cup is at Oswestry on November 27th and 28th.
After a couple of disappointments when matches were cancelled, the Regimental team had a valuable match at R.A.F., Cosford. We had narrowly lost to Cosford at home, but our hopes of revenge were shattered, to the tune of 53 pts. to 17. Since then we have been fortunate in getting SI Timmis attached to the hobby, and under the influence of his coaching, we feel that things are looking up. We look forward to our next match to prove it.
At the end of term we lose Sinclair and Hoyle, both of whom have been regular members of the Regimental team. Before they leave they are taking the referee's exam., so we hope they will be able to spread the Basketball word in the Army at large.
