Leader Magazine
SUMMER 1965.
ESCAPE AND EVASION.
The words Escape and Evasion conjure up many pictures in our mind. It was held on the nights of the 11th and 12th of October, and was the first of its kind to be held in this Regiment. Everyone taking part thought it would be fun, but their thoughts were dispelled soon after the start, when it became cold and the walking boring.
The food situation was farcical, as one haversack ration had to be shared amongst three people, but we decided that during a real escape this would probably be the situation, so we grinned and bore it as cheerfully as we could.
While on Outward Bound, it has been noticed that Junior Leaders' morale tends to drop as the climbing and walking distances increase. However, the more of those exercises that are held, the more popular they may become as the prospect of sleep looms large at the end.
One question posed by Outward Bound. Would it be less boring if no instructors were with the groups? That is a very agreeable idea, but has yet to be answered.
