In Memoriam
  Geoffrey Harry Ainsworth
15/19th Kings Royal Hussars
Died 7th. January 2011.

It is with deep sadness I have to advise you that my father Geoffrey Harry Ainsworth passed away at 6.20pm Friday 7th January 2011 at Rockingham, Perth, Western Australia.

Dad enlisted with the Army on 17th February 1944 and at the end of the war stayed on joining the 15/19th Kings Royal Hussars. He served in the Middle East from October 1945 to November 1947 when they moved to the Sudan. They stayed there until February 1949 returning to the UK. He also served in Northern Ireland and Germany.

My first memories of his service was at Barnard Castle where as a little boy I was able to crawl through tanks and Saracin armoured vehicles. From Barnard Castle we moved to Towyn (now Tywyn) when he was stationed at Tonfanau with the AAJLR.

I remember I did my Eleven Plus exams at Towyn so that would make it about 1962, we remained there until January 1966 when we emigrated to Australia. Dad actually retired on 16 February 1966 whilst we were on the high seas.

Dad was a Sergeant attached to the Adventure Training Wing at Tonfanau, teaching rock and mountain climbing, mountain rescue and survival training. When he took squads up to Snowden, staying at barracks in Angelesy, he used to take me, I was the young kid in the back of the 8 tonners with the Junior leaders. The whole family used to go with him uo Snowden and many of the soldiers will remember Mum cooking for the lads and treating blisters.

Dad received an award for courage at AAJLR when he saved two soldiers in a climbing accident.
