"Reluctant Heroes": Members of the cast in rehearsal.
The Tonfanau Players were formed from members of the permanent staff of the Regiment, and their wives, in January 1960. Since then they have performed four plays, all farces, to members of the Regiment and the general public.
The aims of the group are several. Firstly, as representatives of the Regiment, they hope to present to the public a fairly high standard of performance of plays which have run successfully in London. Bound up with this is the equally important task of presenting to many Junior Leaders, possibly for the first time, a visit to a live theatre. Then there is the pleasure the group has in rehearsing and presenting the plays, and in the tasks of building the sets and making the posters, which are done by Junior Leaders under the eyes of the Woodwork and Art instructors. Finally those Junior Leaders who volunteer have a chance to work backstage with the stage manager. This they do in their own time, willingly and well.
This term's play, "Reluctant Heroes" will be presented in the Village Hall, Llanegryn, on the 30th November, and the 1st and 2nd of December. The play is an Army farce which features the adventures of three recruits and their sergeant. The play is produced, as have been all the previous plays by Captain J. Carrad, R.A. and if rehearsals are a guide, promises to have some intriguing moments.
