Reunions
2026

Min-Y-Mor Hotel
Richard Abraham Report
Reunion 2026, though with obviously smaller numbers, was a great success and as always it’s a pleasure to catch up.
Richard said that when he and Mike Owsley first set up our association in 2004 they were then in their mid to late fifties, so they knew that it was going to be a ‘time-limited’ organisation. In the ensuing years we have been fortunate to see a great many former AAJLR Junior Leaders at our, at first Towyn – then from 2006 Barmouth reunions. This year we are still able to have nineteen ‘on parade’; of which the number includes seven wives and a sister.
A couple of years ago we decided to cease formal meetings and subscriptions so there are no longer Minutes or long-winded reports. To that end, before the carvery dinner on Saturday, Richard just said a few words. Firstly, of welcome to our twentieth year at the Min-Y-Mor, also thanking Jim for his sterling work in circulating details of our get-togethers and his ongoing liaison with ‘our’ hotel. He said that every year there were items of note, from the intrepid souls who have tackled Cadair Idris, through plaque unveiling to the fondly remembered “Two Rs Disco”. Richard made note that earlier in the afternoon Sheila Thompson had made a five hour round trip to bring Johnny for a couple of hours just to say hello. Johnny is not so well, suffering from dementia, but it was apparent that seeing some of us and the hotel meant a lot to him. Richard also made mention of those who are no longer with us either because it is now too far for them to travel or have passed away; specifically, John Toothill who was due to attend this year until his wife Hilda passed away very recently. John though still sent his good wishes to us, as did a number of others direct to Jim or via social media. The substantial number of those sending messages shows that the spirit of AAJLR is still strong. ”
Jim then gave the date of Reunion 2027 which will be Friday 9/Saturday 10 April, obviously at the Min-Y-Mor. He also gave advance notification that it is no longer viable for the hotel to put on a carvery for diminishing numbers so in future we shall choose from the menu.
Richard proposed the loyal toast, Jim to the Regiment and Geoff Brown to the ladies.
Those present generously donated items for the raffle which Pauline Sherville kindly ran, and which raised £95.00 for Blind Veterans UK.
In conclusion, all said how much they enjoyed our brief time together and a number have paid their deposit for Reunion 2027.
